I’m tired. Are you tired? Christian women especially these days seem to be very exaughsted and burned out. Even though we love Jesus and try to do everything we can for him and what we feel called to do, it can be hard for us to rest. We do so much it can difficult to pinpoint a few main reasons why we (including me!) are so tired. I pray it validates what you are feeling.

Okay let’s get to it! Why are Christian women exhausted all the time? Read on to see some reasons why.
1. We say yes more than no
We like our plates full and we may feel guilty saying no, because it’s just one more small thing to do.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
~Matthew 11:28
2. We care
We are built to care about people, things, circumstances. It’s not a flaw, it’s a beautiful reflection of the hearts God gave us. We want to naturally give more.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
~1 Peter 5:7
3. We naturally are wired to give
Not all women, but most women and people who love God have a naturally heart posture to serve and give. and this is good! But, with balance and self awareness to know when not to give and to rest and take care of ourselves – to pour from a full cup first. God honors your giving.
“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
~Proverbs 31:26
4. We connect our value to our productivity (even subconsciously)
Even if we are self aware enough to know we shouldn’t define our worth by how much we do or give, there is still that underlying mentality through culture, sometimes despite our best effort to renew our minds, to make what we do who we are. We’re human, we’re not perfect. Being aware is a good first step towards a more balanced life. Just know, your worth is not measured by output. Rest is a gift, not a failure.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
~Colossians 3:23
5. We want to hold tight to control
I know I know, I hear you saying in your heart “ugh, I’m not being controlling, I’m just being a good leader!” I know. I hear you. Women can lead well healthily, I definitely believe that, for sure. But I heard a quote somewhere that as a result of the fall, women tend to default towards control and men default to passivity – blame adam and eve haha. For me, some of my friends have said I’m being controlling with God, or I’m trying to take control and do God’s job–even without consciously thinking “oh I’m gonna do God’s job”..haha 😂Even if it’s something simple, even if we don’t think it’s “controlling” maybe it’s trying to get God to do what we want Him to do, or as simple as letting go of pride, trying to do it ourselves instead of letting God do it can drain our energy – like a small pin hole in a balloon. Letting go, I’ve learned, is not weakness – it’s trust.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…”
~Proverbs 3:5-6
6. The enemy attacking us
Okay, okay, obvious enough, but still, possible. God said it was not good for man to be alone. And once the woman was made He said it was VERY good. Eve was the crown of creation. There was nothing else like her in Heaven, and we are still made in God’s image. So, I’d argue the enemy is jealous of us and tries to destroy true biblical femininity by wearing us down so thin we can’t provide the life we were to give. You are still protected, even when you feel weary.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
~Isaiah 54:17
7. Life is hard
Life is hard. Instead of trying to pinpoint exactly what’s going on and trying to “fix” or heal or solve why we are so tired, maybe it’s best for our hearts (and sanity) to just accept fully that some parts of life will just be HARD and tiring. And walk forward faithfully through the hurt, pain, and tiredness knowing that our reward is great in heaven, and God never leaves nor forsakes us, right here walking next to us. Like working out – in the moment doing 20 pushups is hard and tiring, but afterwords pushing through we become better for it. And that might provide the freedom and rest we need – peace in our minds while our bodies are at active rest. And, hard seasons don’t mean God is absent – He has already gone ahead.
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
I hope this helped provide a little bit of rest and answers.
