Short Stories Cafe: The Queen – Part 1
The effervescence of the moon off the dim glow of the lavender candles made the ancient crystal glass sparkle. Warm tears smearing her cheeks.
Sword. Knife. Salad. Steak.
Blood dripping, warming her shoulder. Her ear stinging from the arrow shot through, now holding her crown pierced to the wall behind her.
She was the queen. How dare he betray her. How DARE he assume she would sit back and take it. How DARE he think she wouldn’t fight back with everything inside of her. Arrogance is folly. Pride, a lightning bolt downfall. Broken hearts are stronger than the mightiest mountain. She is queen. Not because she claims herself so, but because of the draw towards her, how she overcomes in victory everytime, rising to the top. A leader that is easy to respect and follow. Whose light shines and lifts up all who passes by.
Nothing has taken her out yet, and this won’t either.
Grabbing the knife from the steak she followed the shadow slipping out the door.
✨✨✨✨✨
Following the mud footprints on the lawn she quietly opened the barn door. As it cracked a horse whinnies and drives past her, the smell of smoke from the fire bolt she just barely dodged. She ran to where sunshine was and hopped on to follow, grabbed Viola, her favorite sword that’s been with her through thick and thin, out of its sheath.
Past the hollow cave grounds and waterfalls and right next to the graveyard, to the open valley where she started.
